Vignobles Jade

vignobles jade

Two Saint-Émilion Grand Crus. One estate philosophy. Fully organic, biodynamic, and utterly precise.

The Jade vineyards sit in the commune of Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse, on the limestone hillsides southeast of Saint-Émilion proper. The estate is led by Caroline Teycheney, who, in 2016 — upon acquiring Château Fleur de Lisse and Château L'Étampe — decided to convert the entire operation to organic and biodynamic farming.

The philosophy is one of careful observation. The whole ecosystem is taken into consideration rather than formulas that don’t account for the whole. Teycheney calls it the intelligence of nature. The results bear that out.

Château Fleur de Lisse, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

The vineyards are planted with Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Cabernet Franc plantings are at 41% and climbing. Cabernet Franc ripens later than Merlot, and here it adds freshness, structure, and the aromatic layering to these wines. The estate pursues massal selection for the variety — propagating from the best individual vines over generations rather than purchasing commercial clones.

The fleur-de-lis on the label is a nod to the village of Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse itself. Inside the symbol, vine stocks repeat in a textured pattern, uniting the iconic symbol of France and the vines of Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse into a single symbol.

Fontfleurie, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

The Fontfleurie vines are on a different parcel, which delivers a completely different profile to these wines. The vineyards sit at the foot of the medieval village of Saint-Émilion, between Ausone and Pavie-Macquin — geography that would make any winemaker sit up and take notice. Jade acquired the vineyard in 2018 from the Papon-Nouvel family, who had farmed it organically for fifteen years before the sale.

Where Fleur de Lisse is structured and precise, Fontfleurie is more immediate — fruity and supple.
